Former Ragin’ Cajun track star Hollis Conway has returned to Louisiana as the Athletic Department’s new assistant director for diversity, leadership and education, the university announced.
Conway, a native of Chicago and a member of both the USA Track and Field Hall of Fame as well as the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and a six-time NCAA All-American, three-time national champion in the high jump and a two-time medalist for the U.S. during the 1988 and the 1992 Summer Olympics, will research and evaluate student-athlete support services, develop community engagement programs and assist with student-athlete event planning.
Conway said he is excited for his new role with the university.
"It is my hope that I can be a small part in making sure that all the love, patience, persistence and generosity that was offered to me as a student-athlete will be given to all current and future students and athletes,” Conway said.
Conway will also work with the university’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the governing body for student-athletes.
"Hollis is a tremendous ambassador for the University of Louisiana and will make a positive impact on our student-athletes, staff, campus and community," Bryan Maggard, Ph.D., Louisiana’s director of athletics, said in a statement.
Conway’s job is pending approval by the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors.
